AMP Group Practice held their first Carers forum at Denaby Medical Practice on Thursday 6th June

The staff and expert patients from our PPG would like to thank all patients who gave their support on the day.

On Monday 10th June we will be hosting our first Alzheimer's forum in support of Alzheimer's week

In support of Carers and Alzheimer's week the practice are holding a carers morning at Denaby Medical practice on Thursday 6th June between 10am-2pm, and a Alzheimer's  morning on Monday 10th June between 10am-12noon at Conisbrough Medical practice - all patients and carers are invited to join the team.

Alzheimers week

This week is alzheimers week and the practice is working with Alzheimers society to support carers and patients with Alzheimers. We are having a drop in specialist Alzheimers support morning at the practice across all the sites, we will be writing to all our patients with dementia and their carers as well. 

Please use this opportunity to discuss and share any problems you have and advise us on how we could be a more dementia friendly practice.

carers morning: 

carers week is in mid June 2019 and we have been acclaimed for providing unfunded evening and Saturday appointments for carers since 2010. This has been innovative and considered as excellent in patient need responsiveness. we are holding a cafe and coffee morning during this week and we will be writing to carers asking them to attend. 

Patient participation group meeting- 

Our successfully established PPG meeting is in July 2019 and the next PPG speaker is a consultant ENT surgeon. we will also be discussing how we can help the gypsy and traveller population- Askern has one of the largest populations of this community in the UK. We will also be discussing patient surveys.

Mr Yousef (MPharm)

Mr Yousef has successfully completed 6 months at the practice dealing with complex medical queries and minor ailments. He has had very positive feedback from patients and is soon to be a dad!

Patient Participation Group meeting mid October:

There will be a PPG meeting for patients from Askern, Mexborough, Conisborough and Denaby medical practice held in mid October at Mexborough medical practice. Our guest speaker will be Mr Hassan (FRCS) who is a consultant eye surgeon at Rotherham Hospital. Please let Sana Khan (Mexborough) know if you would like to attend for catering purposes. 

PPG meeting - July 2018

Our second PPG meeting of the year has been very successful with patients from askern, mexborugh, conisborough and now joined denaby medical practice coming in for the meeting.

supporting local comprehensive school students-Matthew Clark- potential NHS Pharmacist of the future

the practice has a long standing policy of inviting students from local comprehensive schools who have the potential of being future NHS heros in various roles for example, paramedics, nurses, pharmacists, doctors and dentists. 

 

we believe if given the opportunity to train and prepare for interviews = they should be successful in entering these courses and we would hope they would come back to serve the local community. Matthew clark- 17 - son of a local police officer from the local comprehensive was given an opportunity to spend his work experience at the practice. this practice fully sponsored him in his training with the multi discaplinary team. matthew successfully completed his program and we wish him well in his application for university. 

 

June 2018 - Cancer research UK- Race for life

Practice has an ethos of supporting national charities working locally. Every year we have supported a charitable organisation- this year we had intended to do 2. Race for life ( as we have done over previous years)  in June 2018! And watch the space for another later in the year !!

April 2018 - Supporting Global health for all

Professor( Hon)  Kumar was invited as the British speaker at the Kazakastan family practice association on the celebration of  World health organisation ( WHO) 40 th year celebration of “ Global health for all” declaration in Almaty April 2018

Republic Of Ireland Health Service

 

Prof(Hon) Vijay Kumar was invited to Mallow Health centre in Cork( Largest GP surgery in the country ) , Republic of Ireland to speak and advice on improving the care delivery in the Republic based on the evolving NHS model of care closer to home and breaking down " waiting lists " in Ireland.
Patients in Ireland could wait upto 18 Months to see a specialist and that's not the case in the U.K. , where innovative work has led to services being delivered in the community by hospital consultants including at Askern and Mexborough medical practice e.g. Orthopaedics and Opthalmology consultant services being delivered in our surgeries for patients from all over Doncaster . Professor Vijay Kumar invited to speak at the department of family practice at Ljubljana University in Slovenia (EU) on achieving higher standards in Healthcare Delivery - February 2016


Teaching Republic of Ireland doctors & talk to Irish Surgeons

Dr Vijay Kumar attended the PSCA conference in Dublin on 25th & 26th September 2015 speaking on the current opportunities and threats in Primary Care Surgery.

NHS Leadership of the year award 2014/2015

Awarded for the services carried out for the patients in the community. This was awarded to our Clinical Lead, Dr Vijay Kumar at the end of 2014 at the Leeds Marriott Hotel.

AAFP Conference – American Family Practice.

Dr Vijay Kumar presented to American Doctors and from other places around the world at the Global Health conference part of the American Family Practice in Washington DC.Teaching americans

The National Health Service was explicitly explained to various delegates at the conference.

 

 


Interacting down under - New models of care in the NHS...

Our practice’s clinical lead was invited to present to the rural university centre based in Lismore which
includes the University of Sydney, University of Newcross, University and Woologong. The speech was broadcast widely across to the outback to some of the Doctors working out there, talking about the various new models of care.


Visit from Kazakhstan

Visit from a leader of doctors in Kazakhstan. Damilya Negmonova attended the practice in June 2015 to see how the practice is run and learning from British care service to take back to Kazakhstan. Our staff had an excellent meeting with her and was delighted to exchange stories.

September 2015 - Dr Vijay Kumar - Honorary Professor

Dr Kumar has now been appointed as an honorary professor in international health care delivery 


Education

The Practice is approved by the University of Middlesex for training for the diploma in Minor Surgery and had the accolade of have various GPs coming to train under our clinical lead.

The practice has also trained Healthcare Assistants nationally and various lectures have been provided in Leicestershire and other areas for training.

The Practice has also done approved surgical training for level 1 and level 2 in a recent programme held in Manchester in early July 2015.

Our Practice has been a long standing training practice for surgical services within the community. We offer training for GPs in various skin procedures and other procedures.

The Practice leads nationally in providing new models of surgical training at the Association of Surgeons in Primary Care (ASPC).
